The 750 meter (1/2 mile) swim in Boulder Reservoir will be well marked by large orange and yellow buoys. Wetsuits are highly recommended, with an anticipated water temperature of 68-72 degrees.
The course is mostly flat and pretty fast. There will be an Aid Station along the way, as well as Police and Course Monitors.
USAT rules will apply, and Motorcycle Marshals will be on the course to apply such rules.
It is your responsibility to be familiar with all USAT regulations.
The 5K (3.1 mile) run course will leave the TA and follow the internal Reservoir Road toward the famous Dams on the East Side.
Once on the dam, the course turns to a relatively smooth gravel road or trail.
One Aid Station will be at the turnaround for this out-and-back course.
The 1500 meter swim will take place in the Boulder Reservoir, located 3 miles northeast of Boulder.
The course will be well marked by large orange and yellow buoys.
The 10 age group waves will have up to 150 people.
The start of the swim course is directly east of the transition area, and the exit is due north of the transition area. Athletes will enter the transition area directly east of the bike exit.
Wetsuits will be allowed in the 68-72 degree water.
You must wear the swim cap that will be in your packet.
Note: The swim course runs counterclockwise.
The 42 kilometer bike leg is a course that has a little of everything as it winds through north Boulder County.
About 6 miles into the clockwise loop will ascend 15% Old Stage Hill (600' vertical climb in 2/3 of a mile).
On the summit will be the first fluid replacement station.
From Old Stage it is a beautiful descent down Left Hand Canyon and out onto the Buffalo covered plains.
Now, in its third year, a 35mph speed limit will be strictly enforced on the major descent on the backside of Old Stage Road.
We will have police officers and course marshals monitoring this.
At mile 18 there will be a second fluid replacement station.
Upon reentering the reservoir you will enter the transition area on the south side, and dismount your bike as you enter.
There will be over 20 uniformed patrol officers to help you along the way.
There will be 2 AID stations on the bike.
